15 wk assessment friday! ALL CLASSES:
COMPLETE THE HALF SHEET YOU RECEIVED IN CLASS. BELOW IS A COPY OF IT: You have two options here. You can either connect your work on The Republic with a previous unit that we have completed or connect your work on The Republic with current events in our world. You must demonstrate that you understand the basic concepts of TR (specifically chp 5) and are able to make overarching connections. To receive full credit, I must see strong connections made with relevant textual evidence used from TR. Example: (Political media in today’s society falls more to opinion than knowledge due to the fact that…) There is no min/max writing requirement, just look to the underline sentences to determine what I need from you for this. DUE TOMORROW. THE SOCRATIC SEMINAR SHEET IS DUE THURSDAY. If you wanted a link to Plato's outline on Knowledge vs. Opinion click here. ALL CLASSES:
If you have not done so, you must complete the analysis questions from class. Complete them in your notebook to be checked tomorrow. 1) What does Socrates’ utopia look like? Why is it considered a Utopia? 2) Compare Socrates’ Utopia to our own world… what are the differences? Similarities? 3) What is Socrates’ view on women? What about the other individuals in the conversation? 4) How does Socrates’ views on women compare to how women are viewed today in society? 5) Why do you think Socrates uses the word “Guardians” to talk about “Leaders”? DUE TOMORROW AS WELL- Students are to read the last section (that was given to them in class) of Chapter 5 and annotate. Their notes should focus on the difference between opinion and knowledge. If you forget the readings at school, it is the last 5 1/2 pages of chapter 5. 15 wk assessment thursday stamp check/triple extra credit opportunity ONLY friday. ALL CLASSES:
AWL Vocab words were posted in the classroom today. To prepare for the quiz on monday, please go to the quizlet page in order to view the words/review/play review games. In class I gave students certain passages from The Republic. I copied them off of my own copy of The Republic, so (for my edition, it may vary) it was pages 146-147, 154-157 and 160-161. They are from Chapter V(5) and you are to read, annotate and take notes on the passages. Your notes should focus on Plato's work on the role of women and what his 'utopia' should look like. I would suggest you search online for The Republic (there are many PDFs of it out there) and look for chapter 5. This is all due Monday, December 15th ALL CLASSES: |
